Current State of Ethics in the Workplace

My entire life, I have believed that morals drive ethics and that ethics drive justice and justice drives equality for all. This course has certainly reinforced in me that ethics do indeed drive justice. If it were not for my deep spiritual conviction in God or Natures God, I would wonder where morals come from. Morals come from some metaphysical realm far removed from man. (Fieser) "The term “meta” means after or beyond, and, consequently, the notion of metaethics involves a removed…" (p 1). What we can take from this is that man is ultimately responsible for his actions, with no help from far off spiritual realm. Man must take responsibility for his actions, but he must also have something to look forward to from the meta-realm, lest he loose all hope.

Reading about schools teaching ethics, we learn that schoolteachers are to busy to teach ethics. (Harned) "Many teachers declare that there is already too much on their plates and that it's the responsibility of families to teach ethics." While I do agree with the statement I also find that, it is lacking. Children learn morals and ethics by watching others they view as they view superior. They learn ethics from watching Ted Kennedy get away with manslaughter and drunk driving because he has money. They learn about lying when Charlie Rangel gets away with tax fraud because he did not report his income from foreign investments. They learn honesty by watching the 6:00 pm news then later learning that the it is, news doctored the evidence or just did not show all the evidence in order to get laws changed, in other words FAKE NEWS. As government has grown in the last 60 years corruption has grown as well which leave ethics with a problem, (Fredrickson) "it leaves the ethicist defending the status quo, including all of the corruption that is part of it" Ethics education has evolved in the 60 years and so have ethical violations.
